Summary

Simplify manual AWS beta image publishing and add the candidate tag for the release process.

Changes

  • Build from the selected workflow branch. Use the same revision for OpenHound source and bundle tooling; remove the separate source_ref input and duplicate checkout/build context. The version and full AWS commit SHA remain required.
  • Publish version + candidate tags. Both tags point to the same AMD64/ARM64 image. Publishing does not deploy it; promotion and deployment remain separate operator actions.
  • Handle stale AWS version pins. Parse packaging metadata and replace OpenHound requirements with the selected beta version, regardless of the original constraint. Preserve extras, environment markers, and other dependencies, including boto3, instead of applying hard-coded string replacements.
  • Clarify token naming. Rename the BuildKit secret to OPENHOUND_AWS_APP_TOKEN to match the existing GitHub App authentication.
  • Update the publishing guide. Document Actions/CLI usage, beta version numbering, candidate tagging, and the internal deployment guide, with a collector-specific product-selection warning.

Validation

  • Ruff and git diff --check passed.
  • Local packaging checks verified unconditional version overrides and preservation of other requirements, extras, and markers.
  • Existing build-time dependency and final-image smoke checks remain in place for both architectures.
  • Full Docker build/ECR publish and deployment were not exercised locally.

Walkthrough

The manual AWS beta workflow now builds OpenHound and bundle tooling from one workflow revision. It uses a renamed app-token secret and adds a candidate tag. The preparation script updates OpenHound requirements in parsed project metadata. The deployment guide documents the revised publishing inputs and process.

Changes

AWS beta bundle workflow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Single-revision build
.github/workflows/build-ecr-aws-beta-manual.yaml, Dockerfile.aws-bundle
The workflow removes source_ref and checks out its workflow revision for both source and tooling. The Docker build uses that checkout without a separate bundle context and adds the candidate tag. The Dockerfile takes the bundle scripts from the source copied into /app and uses the OPENHOUND_AWS_APP_TOKEN secret ID.
Manual publishing and token handling
scripts/prepare_aws_bundle.py, deployments/aws-extension-bundle.md, .github/workflows/build-ecr-aws-beta-manual.yaml
The preparation script pins OpenHound requirements across parsed project metadata and reads OPENHOUND_AWS_APP_TOKEN. The guide documents the selected branch, required AWS commit SHA, access-only mode, image tags, and CLI usage.

The AWS beta bundle workflow can now publish an image whose AWS extension requires a newer OpenHound than the one built into it, because the version bound is overwritten before compatibility is checked. Confirm the selected AWS revision is compatible, or add a compatibility check, before relying on published beta images. The rest of the workflow, secret rename and guide changes look consistent.
