Summary

  • Mint a short-lived installation token scoped to SpecterOps/openhound-aws with Contents: read.
  • Use that token as the existing BuildKit secret OPENHOUND_AWS_GITHUB_TOKEN.
  • Add a verify_access_only dispatch mode that checks out the requested openhound-aws commit and skips the entire ECR publishing job.
  • Keep the ECR job’s existing OIDC permission at job scope.

Validation

I will dispatch this branch with verify_access_only: true to check the clone path. That mode does not configure AWS credentials, log in to ECR, or run the image build/push steps.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Added an option to verify access to the requested AWS revision without publishing a beta image.
    • Beta image publishing continues when verification-only mode is not selected.

Add a read-only verification mode that checks out SpecterOps/openhound-aws and skips the ECR publishing job. Use an installation token limited to this repository with Contents: read for the existing bundle build secret.

Walkthrough

The manual AWS workflow adds a mode that checks access to a requested repository revision without publishing an image. The publishing path now creates a read-only GitHub App token and passes it to the image build.

Changes

AWS build workflow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Verification-only checkout
.github/workflows/build-ecr-aws-beta-manual.yaml
The verify_access_only input selects a job that creates a read-only App token, checks out the requested aws_commit, and verifies the checked-out revision.
ECR publishing token flow
.github/workflows/build-ecr-aws-beta-manual.yaml
The publishing job runs when verification-only mode is disabled. Its id-token: write permission is scoped to the job, and the image build receives the newly created App token instead of the secret.

This change moves the AWS build to a short-lived, read-only GitHub App token and adds an access-check-only mode. Two small follow-ups are needed. Verification mode should reject commit inputs that the publish path would reject. The deployment documentation should list the new App credentials so that operators can configure them. Neither is likely to cause serious harm, but both could cause confusing manual-run failures.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Validate the commit input in verification mode.

A value such as main passes checkout and the HEAD check, but scripts/prepare_aws_bundle.py Lines 34–35 rejects it during publishing. Validate the same lowercase 40-character SHA format before checkout. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
