Virtainer

Free virtualization you run on your own hardware.

Virtainer runs classic virtual machines and any Docker image on your own servers. Every app, container images included, is sealed in its own hardware VM: the VM is the security boundary, not a shared kernel. One install gives you a web UI, an API, image library, storage, networking and metrics.

  • Virtainer Free: the standalone single-host edition, available now.
  • Virtainer Pro: the multi-host cluster edition, coming soon. Join the waitlist.
  • Virtainer Registry: registry.virtainer.io, a public catalog of Linux cloud images with download URLs and checksums.

Open source

  • virtainer-guest-agent: a QEMU Guest Agent compatible agent for Linux VMs on Cloud Hypervisor, reached over vsock. One static binary, Apache-2.0.
  • cloud-image-inspector: reads cloud disk images without booting or mounting them (qcow2/raw, ext4/XFS/btrfs) and reports the OS and the facts first-boot configuration depends on. No dependencies, Apache-2.0.
