Fix Epic games crashing on login when the account still needs scope consent - #2196
Conversation
…onsent Games built on EOS SDK 1.12 or older crash inside EOS_Auth_Login when the exchange-code login comes back as ScopeConsentRequired; Epic fixed that in SDK 1.13. A new launch dependency swaps such DLLs for SDK 1.19.2.1 from the CDN, keeping the original next to it and skipping games whose binaries import an export the newer SDK dropped. The consent page the SDK then opens goes through winebrowser to WineRequestComponent, which was dead by default: it read the external-links preference with the opposite default from Settings, and its Epic match missed www.epicgames.com. Epic /id/ pages now open in the in-app Epic WebView and other links in the Android browser.

Pin the replacement DLL before installation.
install accepts any existing replacement whose PE product version meets the minimum, then copies it into the game directory. The version metadata does not authenticate the DLL contents. Compare the file's SHA-256 with the expected 1.19.2.1 digest before installation, and delete it when the digest does not match.
fetchFile normally uses a .part file, checks the content length, and renames it. However, its renameTo fallback copies directly into the destination, so an interrupted copy can still leave a cached partial file.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Write the backup and the replacement through a temp file and an atomic rename.
File.copyTo(overwrite = true) deletes the target first and then streams into it. If the copy fails partway, for example because storage is full, the game is left with a truncated EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll.
A truncated DLL is not repaired on the next launch. readProductVersion returns null for it, and outdatedSdkDlls treats null as "not outdated" (?: false). The game then fails to launch until the user verifies or reinstalls it.
The backup has the same problem. If dll.copyTo(backup) fails partway, a truncated .gn-orig file stays on disk. backup.exists() then skips the backup on the next run. The next successful swap overwrites the only good copy of the original DLL.

Treat unreadable EOS SDK versions as outdated.
readProductVersion returns null when the DLL has no fixed-file-info. The current ?: false then excludes that DLL, so isSatisfied skips installation. This leaves an SDK whose version is not known to meet 1.13 in place. Change only the outdated predicate; this is separate from how the replacement file is copied.

official Kotlin API documentation FileTreeWalk maxDepth root directory depth
💡 Result:
The official Kotlin API docs define `FileTreeWalk.maxDepth(depth)` as a **maximum traversal depth**. The depth must be positive; `Int.MAX_VALUE` means unlimited. At depth **1**, the walk includes the root directory and its immediate children; at depth **2**, it also includes grandchildren. ([kotlinlang.org](https://kotlinlang.org/api/latest/jvm/stdlib/kotlin.io/-file-tree-walk/max-depth.html?utm_source=openai))
Use it on a walk, for example: `root.walk().maxDepth(1)`. `File.walk()` creates a `FileTreeWalk` for the directory and its contents. ([kotlinlang.org](https://kotlinlang.org/api/latest/jvm/stdlib/kotlin.io/java.io.-file/walk.html?utm_source=openai))

Scan from the game install root.
findRemovedExportImporter starts three directories above the SDK DLL. For Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/EOSSDK/Win64/EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll, that root is Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty, so the scan does not reach Project/Binaries/Win64/<Project>-Win64-Shipping.exe.
The scan can miss an importer of EOS_RTCAdmin_GetUserRoomTokenCount, replace the SDK, and leave the game with a missing-entry-point failure. On later launches, isSatisfied sees the replacement version and does not restore .gn-orig.
Return the resolved install root with the outdated DLLs and scan from that root. MAX_SEARCH_DEPTH already reaches the stated layout, so no additional depth is required.

Abort the SDK replacement when an import scan fails.
containsAny returns false after a RandomAccessFile error. findRemovedExportImporter treats that result as “no importer,” so install can replace the outdated SDK without ruling out EOS_RTCAdmin_GetUserRoomTokenCount. If the unreadable binary imports that export, it can fail to load with the replacement SDK. Propagate the scan exception so the existing outer handler exits before replacement.

Require HTTPS before routing Epic URLs to EpicOAuthActivity.
isEpicAccountUrl accepts http://epicgames.com/id/login and passes it unchanged to AuthWebViewDialog, which calls WebView.loadUrl. The manifest enables cleartext traffic, so the WebView can load the login page over HTTP and expose credentials or consent data to a network attacker.

Description
Reported in the "Alex kidd in miracle world, launch issue" support thread: the game crashed on Play but ran from the container and in Epic offline mode. The diagnostic log put the crash inside
EOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dll(1.12.0) on the path that handlesEOS_Auth_ScopeConsentRequiredfrom the exchange-code login. Epic's SDK 1.13 notes list the fix: "Fixed possible crash via the exchange code flow in EOS_Auth_Login when additional consent is required."Two changes:
EpicSdkUpdateDependency: before an Epic launch, findEOSSDK-Win64-Shipping.dllfiles with a product version below 1.13, download SDK 1.19.2.1 from the CDN, keep the original as.gn-origand copy the new DLL over. Epic documents the SDK as a drop-in binary upgrade. One export was dropped between 1.12 and 1.19 (EOS_RTCAdmin_GetUserRoomTokenCount); the dependency scans the game's exe/dll files for that name and leaves the SDK alone if anything imports it. Failures log and let the launch continue.WineRequestComponent: the consent page the SDK opens goes through winebrowser to this component, which was dead by default. It readopen_web_links_externallywith defaultfalsewhile Settings showstrue, and its Epic match washttps://epicgames.com, which never matches the realhttps://www.epicgames.com/id/...URL. Now Epic/id/pages open in the in-app Epic WebView (already signed in) and other links open in the Android browser, unless the user turned the setting off.Tested on the Odin 3 with FNAF: Into the Pit (ships SDK 1.17, so the swap is a no-op and the game runs). Ran winebrowser inside the live container: a generic URL opened Chrome, an Epic
/id/loginURL opened the in-app Epic WebView. No owned Epic game ships SDK 1.12 or older, so the swap itself is covered by unit tests only; the reporter's next online launch is the real check. The 32-bitEOSSDK-Win32-Shipping.dllis not handled.Recording
Screenshots were taken during testing but not attached; the visible change is the Epic consent page opening in the app instead of the game crashing.
