git-release-api.sh rejected versions such as 1.1.0-a2-dev. After 1.1.0-a1 is released, that is the natural version for a rolling dev build, because phpBB and PHP sort 1.1.0-dev before 1.1.0-a1, so it would look like a downgrade.

  • The version check now also accepts an alpha, beta or RC ending in -dev. The shared release code already treats any version ending in -dev as a rolling prerelease, and git-extensions.sh already accepted these versions.
  • New test: a 1.2.3-a2-dev dry run is accepted and packaged as a prerelease. Claude checked that the test fails without the fix.
  • README and --help mention the new form.

Investigated and written by Claude on behalf of William Jacoby (bonelifer).
