    @illiphilli Please refer to the documentation here in creating these final UX Designs: #731

  3. moved this from Needs additional details to Drafting in Competency Criteria and Student Progresson Oct 15, 2026

    @illiphilli

    @jmakowski1123 @mgwozdz-unicon designs are ready for every scenario in #731. I checked the five Reduced Scope frames against Mary's list and added a Criteria combinations section for the gaps.

    Figma: Criteria combinations section · existing frames: Landing, Six Deep

    Already covered by the Reduced Scope frames

    • One group, one rule, one or more subsections: Landing (Evaluation; Analysis)
    • Leaf competency with its own criteria: Landing (every sub-competency)
    • Parent demonstrated only through its sub-competencies: Landing (Critical Thinking)
    • Three or more levels deep: Six Deep. Its breadcrumbs now list the ancestors (Level 1 to Level 4) per [FE] Build cards displaying Competency Criteria on the Course Progress page #734, and the extra slashes are gone.
    • Competency-level states: Landing (Demonstrated, Partially Attempted, Available; never Not Demonstrated)

    New frames that follow #734 as written

    1. One group, two thresholds, any one is enough
    2. One group, two thresholds, all required. It also shows Partially Attempted on a subsection row, which [ARCH] Document all acceptable/valid competency criteria combinations that need to be displayed. #731 lists. Per Mary's 9/1 note on [UXD Spike] Confirm what the Competency Status values should be, how they will be determined, and what iconography or other accessible means will be used with their display. #768, today's pass/fail rule can't produce it, so the row only matters if a future rule allows partial credit.
    3. Two groups joined by OR, with no group labels
    4. Parent with its own criteria and sub-competencies with criteria
    1. One subsection in two competencies, same grade, different statuses
    2. One subsection twice in one competency, at two thresholds

    These answer two of #731's open design questions:

    • Unlabeled groups (question 2): the AND/OR separator between groups, plus each group's own line (frame 3).
    • Different thresholds (question 3): one group line, then a rule line per threshold (frames 1 and 2), so they don't read as an error.

    Proposals that need a decision

    The italic copy in these frames is proposed. It's marked in Dev Mode.

    1. Demonstrated in another course run: the pills show the instance-wide status, with "Demonstrated in another course. Assignments here still count toward it."
    2. Sub-competency that can't be earned: a closing line names the sub-competency with no assignments, which explains a Partially Attempted heading over all-Demonstrated rows.
    3. Archived sub-competency with a recorded status: the tag keeps its recorded status, with "Archived" and no assignments.
    4. This course covers only some sub-competencies: "2 more Communication sub-competencies are assessed in other courses."

    @mgwozdz-unicon three questions on these:

    @jmakowski1123 please review frames 1–4, 9 and 10 for approval. Frames 5–8 can follow once Mary has answered.

    @illiphilli

    @mgwozdz-unicon @jmakowski1123 recording yesterday's check-in on the Criteria combinations section, plus proposed answers to what's still open.

    Decided 10/20

    Removed

    Proposed

    • Frames 6 and 7 (can't be earned, archived): show both to learners. Hiding them makes a Partially Attempted heading over all-Demonstrated rows look like a bug. An archived sub-competency keeps its recorded status. @mgwozdz-unicon does it still count toward its parent's roll-up? I'd say yes, since the status was earned.
    • Frame 8 (this course covers only some sub-competencies): drop the "N more sub-competencies are assessed in other courses" line for MVP. Mary wasn't sure the back end can tell, and the line isn't needed to read the card. I'll restore it if [BE] GET Competency Criteria for Course #733 or [BE] GET Competency Statuses for Learner in Course #738 can return the count.

    For approval
    @jmakowski1123 please approve frames 1–3, 9 and 10 (these follow #734 as written), and frame 5 with the new copy. Per the workflow agreed 10/20, Mary can make the final call on frames 6–8 if they're too in the weeds.
