### 2026-10-16 - MSYS2 installer is signed

Belated news entry. Starting with the 2026-06-11 release, the MSYS2 installer is
signed with a Windows code signing certificate. It took a while for the signing
certificate to build up reputation with Microsoft SmartScreen, but you should no
longer see the blue "Windows protected your PC" warning when running the
installer.

We plan to also sign binaries in the MSYS2 packages in the future this way,
which might help to reduce false positives with antivirus software.

Thanks to [@dscho](https://github.com/dscho) for helping us get the "Azure
Artifact Signing" access set up, and to [@skeeto](https://github.com/skeeto) for
developing [aas-sign](https://github.com/skeeto/aas-sign), which we use to sign
our releases in GitHub Actions.
