Unsupported ResultSet and DatabaseMetaData methods throw UnsupportedOperationException #114

Closed

Description

@magnusp

Many methods throw UnsupportedOperationException. JDBC requires SQLFeatureNotSupportedException for an unsupported optional feature. Callers that catch SQLException crash on the unchecked exception.

Affected methods include:

  • In LibsqlResultSet: getBinaryStream, getAsciiStream, getCharacterStream, getBlob, getClob, getURL, getRowId, and the update* methods.
  • In LibsqlDatabaseMetaData: getProcedures, getTablePrivileges, getBestRowIdentifier, and similar methods.

sqlite-jdbc supports getBinaryStream and getCharacterStream, and some blob and clob methods. Two smaller defects in the same area:

Expected:

  • Throw SQLFeatureNotSupportedException from every unsupported method.
  • Implement the stream getters on top of getBytes and getString.
  • Make getObject with a map reject a non-empty map.
  • Throw an SQLException for a null label.
