Bug description
Description:
There is a visual and functional desync between the Nemo Preferences GUI and the actual gsettings backend regarding date formats.
In Nemo -> Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Date Format, the dropdown displays a preview of the correct localized system time (e.g., 2026-10-10 10:24:38). However, the actual file list views completely ignore this, continuing to display files with raw ISO/UTC 24-hour timestamps (e.g., 16:00:24 for a file modified minutes prior).
Steps to reproduce
Steps to Reproduce:
Open Nemo Preferences -> Display.
Note that the Date Format dropdown reflects local system time.
Observe that file list columns (like Date Modified) still show ISO/UTC formatting.
Run gsettings get org.nemo.preferences date-format in the terminal; it returns 'iso' despite the GUI indicating otherwise.
Expected behavior
Expected Behavior:
Changing or viewing the Date Format settings in the GUI should correctly alter or reflect the active gsettings value, and file views should match the displayed format.
Can't reproduce this (in LMDE7).
Tried changing dates preference to include my timezone (BST).
nemo instantly modified a existing nemo window to show the new date format and updated the gsettings entry from 'iso' to 'locale'
Using the dconf editor/display gives much more information:-
Thanks for your quick response Jeremy
I had only noticed it with my .Xauthority file. It seems like I did 100 steps to fix it (they are listed below) But I never did a reboot. I am sorry, maybe I cried wolf. It seems that one of the steps below must have fixed it but until I rebooted it was not obvious.
It seems that we can mark this issue is resolved or as a false alarm.
Thanks again. Below are the steps that I did.
This isn't crying wolf - perhaps just a small mis-configuration?
One possibility is that the timedatectl set-local-rtc 0 command fixed the problem:-
From the man page for timedatectl:
set-local-rtc [BOOL]
Takes a boolean argument. If "0", the system is configured to maintain the RTC in universal time. If "1", it
will maintain the RTC in local time instead. Note that maintaining the RTC in the local timezone is not
fully supported and will create various problems with time zone changes and daylight saving adjustments....
In your 1st message you mentioned dconf-editor. I just installed it. I do see some differences in my setting from the screenshot you provided. Both my Current value and Custom values are set to locale. In your screen shot they are set to iso. So my current is locale and not iso. But the "issue" is no longer presenting itself on my system.
Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks for your responses.
