Summary

The custom Blog listing previously rendered the same HTML title as the homepage. It now renders Blog | Hype, while the homepage and article titles retain their existing behavior. The site head also references only the SVG favicon that is actually shipped, removing inherited links to three nonexistent PNG icons.

Scope is the technical SEO portion of #5 only. No keyword, strategy, or internal-linking documents are included; the recent default and per-article OG images are already complete.

Closes #5

Generated-site audit

Inspected all 20 generated HTML pages (18 content pages plus home and Blog):

Area Result
Sitemap Valid XML with 19 unique HTTPS URLs; every listed URL resolves to a generated page. The Blog listing is omitted by Hype.
robots.txt Allows crawling and advertises https://hypemd.dev/sitemap.xml.
Canonicals Each content page and the homepage has one correct absolute canonical. Hype gives the Blog listing the homepage canonical.
Titles and descriptions All 20 titles are now distinct. Every page has one nonempty description; all 18 content descriptions are distinct. Hype gives Blog the homepage description.
OG/Twitter cards All pages have card, title, description, and OG image metadata. All 18 content pages have explicit Twitter images matching their OG images. Every referenced image exists. Home and Blog omit explicit Twitter images in Hype's shared template.
Article JSON-LD All 18 content pages have one parseable Article document, with matching headline, author, ISO publication date, and publisher.

Upstream follow-up: gopherguides/hype

These gaps originate in the shared blog generator and remain in both v0.8.1 and current main (79c0476). They are intentionally recorded here instead of duplicating or patching around the generator's SEO and sitemap behavior:

  • Use each listing's page path for its canonical and og:url; Blog currently points at the homepage.
  • Support per-listing descriptions and social titles; Blog currently inherits homepage metadata.
  • Include configured list pages such as Blog in the generated sitemap.
  • Emit the configured default twitter:image on listing pages, as is already done for articles.
  • Improve Article JSON-LD with the existing article/default image and organizational author typing. Gopher Guides currently renders as Person. Google supports Organization authors and recommends applicable image metadata: Article structured-data guidance.

Type

  • Content (new article or content update)
  • Layout/Theme (template or styling changes)
  • Infrastructure (Dockerfile, CI, config)
  • Other

Test Plan

  • make build succeeds with deployment Hype v0.8.1 and with the current Hype main revision used by CI.
  • make dev shows changes correctly in browser — validated generated HTML directly instead.
  • No broken links or missing assets — every sitemap target and referenced OG/Twitter image and favicon exists; broader content-link crawling was outside this audit.
  • Generated HTML inspection verifies unique titles, one description/canonical per page, Twitter metadata, and 18 parseable Article schemas. The upstream exceptions above were explicitly reproduced.
  • git diff --check passes; the override uses Hype's escaped HTML templates and introduces no executable code or dependencies.
