Propagate the resolved primary asset directory to TheLocalFileSystem in BIGFileSystem::init so loose files such as Data/Cursors/*.ani can be resolved when runtime cwd differs from the asset root. Make ANI cursor loading, first-frame hotspot extraction, bounds clamping, and static color cursor fallback cross-platform in SDL3Mouse for both Zero Hour and base Generals. Symlink Data/Cursors during macOS deployment and add diagnostic logging for asset fallback and cursor initialization.

450-451: Check that the unconditionalfprintf(stderr, ...)log is intended.The log prints once at init and once at
BIGFileSystem::init. This matches the path instruction on release-build diagnostics, which requiresfprintf(stderr, ...)paired withfflush(stderr). The code complies. No change is needed.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.Check the
directory_iteratorerror code before the case-insensitive match loop.If
assetRootCurrentis a regular file, a non-directory, or unreadable, the iterator constructor setsecAssetCase. The range-for then iterates an end iterator, so the loop is safe. But the error code is not read, andpathFixedPartstays empty. The code handles this correctly by accident.The asset-root path also runs this traversal on every missed lookup. Each component can scan a full directory with
directory_iterator. Cursor and script lookups on largeData/trees repeat this scan on each miss. This cost applies to every failed lookup, such as optional-file probes.Consider caching the resolved result per lowercase relative path. Treat this as follow-up work, as the retrieved learning says per-root detection and caching are out of scope here.

Share environment-path sanitization with StdLocalFileSystem::init()
sanitizeConfiguredPath supports quoted paths, but StdLocalFileSystem::init() passes the raw environment value to setAssetRootPath(). If BIG loading falls back to the current working directory, BIGFileSystem::init() leaves primaryAssetsDirectory empty and does not overwrite that raw fallback. Relative loose-file lookups can then use a path containing quote characters and fail to find assets.
Reuse the sanitizer for the local fallback path.

Closing in favor of #373 which consolidates the custom cursor fix together with the tactical air unit ground indicator. |
Summary
Restores in-game custom animated and static mouse cursors across macOS and Linux by propagating the resolved asset root path to
TheLocalFileSystem, broadening case-insensitive path resolution, and making SDL3 cursor loading, hotspot clamping, and color fallback cross-platform.Root Cause
StdBIGFileSystemandWin32BIGFileSystemintoCore/GameEngine/Source/Common/System/BIGFileSystem.cpp, the statement propagating the resolved primary asset directoryTheLocalFileSystem->setAssetRootPath(primaryAssetsDirectory)was inadvertently omitted..anicursor files are loose retail game assets (underData/Cursors/*.ani) not packed inside.bigarchives, and on Linux/macOS the binary cwd and asset directory are separate,TheFileSystem->openFile("Data/Cursors/*.ani")failed to open any cursor file. When all cursor resources were null,SDL3Mouse::setCursor()defaulted toSDL_GetDefaultCursor()(the operating system's standard mouse cursor).SDL3Mouse.cpp, cursor frame hotspot clamping and the fallback from animated cursor to static color cursor (SDL_CreateColorCursor) were gated under#ifdef __linux__. On macOS, ifSDL_CreateAnimatedCursorfailed, cursor creation failed completely without falling back to a color cursor.Changes
