Resolve archived sessions via source files, not filename stems - #361
fsckjournal wants to merge 3 commits into
Conversation
Archive detection treated a cached session as archived whenever its ID was absent from the set of JSONL filename stems. A JSONL can hold several session IDs, and its stem need not equal any of them (e.g. after a rename), so live sessions whose source file still existed were reported as archived. Add CacheManager.get_existing_session_ids, which augments the stem-derived set with every cached session whose recorded source file is still present on disk (scoped per project). Use it in archive counting, HTML-generation planning, and the TUI session browser. Sessions whose sources are genuinely deleted remain archived. Read-only; does not reconstruct transcripts. Adds focused tests covering renamed sources, multiple sessions per file, deleted sources, a surviving duplicate, cross-project isolation, hidden sessions, the uncached-stem fallback, and a directory sharing a recorded path. …tions
Two follow-ups from the CodeRabbit review of this PR:
1. get_existing_session_ids counted any surviving source file, so a deleted
trunk JSONL whose agent sub-transcript (subagents/agent-*.jsonl) still
existed kept its session "current" even though trunk discovery cannot load
it. Restrict resolution to trunk (non-sidechain) rows. Agent files carry the
trunk session id but are all is_sidechain=1, so a surviving agent file no
longer rescues a gone trunk.
2. The session browser's Archive and Delete actions built the JSONL path from
the session id (project_path / f"{session_id}.jsonl"), so for a renamed or
multi-session file Archive failed and Delete reported success without
removing the source. Resolve the real trunk source path(s) from the cache
(get_session_source_paths), falling back to the canonical name only when the
cache knows no source. When the resolved file is shared with other current
sessions (get_sessions_sharing_file), the confirm modals now warn that the
action affects them too, so removal is an explicit choice.
Tests: deleted-trunk/surviving-agent stays archived; trunk+agent stays current;
source-path resolution is trunk-only and drops deleted files; shared-file
lookup excludes hidden and agent rows. Full cache and TUI suites pass.

If a project has one source JSONL, archiving that file makes
valid_session_idsempty. This condition then skips archived-session classification and keeps the cached session inself.sessions. The browser shows the session as current and does not offer Restore. Classify cached sessions against the empty set after the last source file is removed.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Follow-up to the CodeRabbit re-review. load_sessions only computed archived sessions when valid_session_ids was non-empty; archiving the last source JSONL in a project made the set empty, so the else branch left the orphaned cached session in self.sessions and showed it as current with no Restore offered. Always classify against the resolved valid set. When it is empty, every non-hidden cached session is archived (get_archived_sessions) and self.sessions is filtered to nothing, so the browser offers Restore instead of pretending the source still exists. The old "treat all as current" branch for empty sets was a test-environment shortcut no current test relies on (the TUI fixtures write <session-id>.jsonl, and the cache-only paths go through is_archived_project or the run_session_browser entry guard). Test: load_sessions with a cached session and no JSONL files now lands it in archived_sessions, not sessions. Full TUI and archive suites pass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
