Changes

For tools without their own resolver:

  • latest or a partial version without a match in the tool-versions data logs a warning (needs a newer containerbase, only prereleases match, or no release for the host) and is used as is, like before.
  • An exact version, also a prerelease, which the embedded data lists and which needs a newer containerbase logs a warning and is used as is; no online lookup for exact versions.
  • protoc and swift publish major.minor releases, so a major.minor version without a match is used as is without a warning.
  • No behaviour change, the next major fails instead of warning (Only download tool files from the tool-versions data #7962).
  • Docs follow in the top layer of the stack.
  • Part of Add a generic tool-versions resolver for tools without a resolver #7896.
