merge: reconcile upstream through 041db101 - #485
Conversation
…barrels (colbymchenry#2526) An `export … from './x'` statement emitted one `imports` reference per re-exported name and nothing for the module itself; `export * from` emitted nothing at all. So a barrel made only of `export *` lines had no dependency on what it re-exports (no dependent for `affected`), and sync could not find an `index.ts` that re-exports another barrel: when the inner one was deleted or added, the outer one's importers kept their stale or name-matched edges. A re-export now imports its module the way `import … from` does, in both extractors (TS and the Rust kernel): an import node named by the specifier and a module reference that links the barrel to the file it names. Sync's importer discovery follows such modules to their own importers, carrying the names each passes on (`export *`, a named or renamed re-export, an `export * as ns`), as deep as the resolver chases a re-export; an ES namespace import reads whatever its module passes on. A re-export's import node does not count as a symbol for the "parse produced no symbols" warning, so a barrel with an unparseable line still reports it. Upstream colbymchenry#2526: a JavaScript or TypeScript `export … from` now imports its module (an import node and a reference), and sync follows barrels of barrels. The kernel change is taken as is. The fork's import reader takes a file's re-exports from its `reexport` binding rows rather than from its text, so `import-resolver.ts` keeps the fork's version and `module-importers.ts` reads the rows. The torture-multilang golden dump gains the two import nodes its two `export … from` lines now make.

A JavaScript or TypeScript file whose only parsed lines are `export … from` statements now has an import node per statement, so the collapsed-parse warning (`parse produced no symbols`) stopped firing for a barrel whose other lines failed to parse, and `status` reported the index as up to date. The kernel's warning now leaves those import nodes out of its symbol count, as upstream's TypeScript extractor does for the same statements.

…oute adds importersOf marked a re-exporting module as followed the first time a route reached it, so a second route that passed on another name through it was dropped: with `c.ts` re-exporting `Button` from a barrel and `Btn` through `a.ts`, an importer of `Btn` from `c.ts` stayed unlinked after the barrel was deleted or added, where a fresh index links it. A module is now followed again for the names the new route adds, and not again when it adds none, so cycles still end.
Merges upstream
mainthrough041db101(upstream colbymchenry#2526, "a re-export imports its module, and sync follows barrels of barrels") intofork/consolidated. It is the only upstream commit not already here. What changes
export { X } from './y'orexport * from './y'now imports its module the way animport … fromdoes: an import node and a reference.codegraph affectedand a module's dependents include the barrels that re-export it. This is the kernel change (codegraph-kernel/src/tsjs/mod.rs) and its TypeScript twin insrc/extraction/tree-sitter.ts, taken as upstream wrote them.codegraph syncand the file watcher follow anindex.tsthat re-exports another barrel, when the inner barrel is deleted or added. This issrc/resolution/module-importers.ts.Where the fork differs from upstream
src/resolution/import-resolver.tskeeps the fork's version: upstream's only change there was exporting one constant, and the fork's resolver is the kernel.reexportbinding rows, as it already takes its imports fromimportrows, instead of re-reading the file's text. The chase depth (8) is the kernel resolver'sREEXPORT_MAX_DEPTH.export … fromstatements count for the importer search, as upstream's reader does; animport { x } …; export { x as y }forward is not followed there (the kernel resolver itself does follow it).CHANGELOG.mdis the fork's plus the two new upstream entries. The changelog helper also offered four older upstream entries (VB.NET type lookup, CRLF store exports, C++ calls without a receiver, Go calls through a package-named local) that earlier reconciles did not carry, two of which the fork words differently; I left them out, as before.A second commit (kernel)
The first push failed
status-index-health("a file the parser could not read keeps status from reporting up to date") on Ubuntu and macOS. A barrel whose other lines fail to parse now has an import node perexport … fromline, so the kernel's collapsed-parse warning (parse produced no symbols), which the fork emits in Rust, stopped firing. Upstream's TypeScript extractor already leaves those import nodes out of its symbol count; the kernel'sparse_collapse_warningnow does too (reexport_importscounter on the kernel tables, incremented where the walker makes the import).A third commit (sync)
CodeRabbit and cubic both flagged that
importersOfstops following a re-exporting module the first time any route reaches it. Reproduced: withc.tsre-exportingButtonfrom a barrel andBtnthrougha.ts, an importer ofBtnfromc.tsstayed unlinked after the barrel was deleted or added, where a fresh index links it. The module is now followed again for the names a later route adds, and not when it adds none. Upstream's version of this loop has the same gap; the two-route case is insync-module-importers.test.tsand fails without the change.Checks
