Extends §6.3 of the competitive-landscape survey with the follow-up to the Flask test-selection measurement (#456).

  • The twelve Flask symbols that explore lists no tests for fall into four groups: three behind Flask.__call__ (tests reach it only through the test client), two that tests call directly but that have no resolved call edge (from_mapping, add_app_template_test; cause not traced), six internal hooks or decorator-applied methods, and one past the 3-hop limit. None is a wrong edge.
  • The same trace on FastAPI and Express shows an entry-point gap in those two repositories as well; FastAPI's route registration still links most of the request path to tests, and Express's app.render, res.render and res.sendFile are unlinked although tests call them.
  • Records why linking every test-client test to the app entry would not help: it matches what affected already does at depth 5 (precision 0.65 against 0.62 for running everything).

About eight functions per framework and no coverage oracle for FastAPI and Express, so the section calls the figures indicative. Docs only; nothing is built.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added analysis of why some Flask symbols lack test links, including framework entry points, unresolved calls, internal hooks, and traversal-depth limits.
    • Added FastAPI and Express examples of request-path entry-point gaps, based on a limited review of two repositories without coverage data.
    • Documented that linking test-client usage to app entry points is not expected to improve selection precision; this linking remains unimplemented pending further evaluation.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The competitive landscape document analyzes twelve Flask symbols without test links and adds FastAPI and Express request-path examples. It describes the limits of linking test-client uses to app entry points and states that request-path linking remains unimplemented.

Framework test-link comparison
docs/design/competitive-landscape-adoption.md
Groups twelve Flask symbols without test links by observed path. Compares FastAPI and Express request-path examples, noting that the evidence lacks coverage oracles. States that linking all test-client users to app entry points would not narrow test selection and that request-path linking remains unimplemented.

trace on two other frameworks to limit the entry-point-gap finding to those
sampled repositories. Make clear that the samples do not establish the gap as
general, while preserving the surrounding comparison and caveats.
