feat(server): serve on a Unix socket, as go-plugin's own plugins do - #6

The server listened on a loopback TCP port, which any process on the machine can connect to and call the plugin through. go-plugin's own plugins serve on a Unix socket instead, in a directory the host creates for the plugin, and so does this library now: - the socket is created in PLUGIN_UNIX_SOCKET_DIR, or the system's temporary directory when the host names none, under a unique name the way go-plugin reserves one; - it is opened to the group named in PLUGIN_UNIX_SOCKET_GROUP, by name or number, with group read and write, when the host names one; - the handshake advertises it as "unix" with its path; - it is removed when the server goes. PluginServer::port() becomes socket_path(). PLUGIN_MIN_PORT and PLUGIN_MAX_PORT no longer apply. A go-plugin host accepts a Unix socket from a plugin, its own Go plugins use one, so hosts need no change; the example host runs against it unchanged. The group test failed outright when the process's gid had no group entry, as in a container run under an arbitrary gid, and so lost the numeric case too. It now always tries the gid as a number, and tries the group's name only when there is one that is not all digits, since an all-digit value is taken as a number. The server now listens on a Unix socket instead of a TCP port, so PluginServer::port() gives way to socket_path() and the port range variables no longer apply. That changes the surface, as does what landed since 0.2.0: Abseil's level set from a go-plugin level, and the server stopping when the host asks. What
The server listened on a loopback TCP port, which any process on the machine can connect to and call the plugin through. go-plugin's own Go plugins serve on a Unix socket in a directory the host creates for the plugin, and this library now does the same, following go-plugin's rules:
PLUGIN_UNIX_SOCKET_DIR, or, when the host names none,TMPDIRand then/tmp, under a uniquepluginXXXXXXname reserved the way go-plugin reserves one. A path too long for a socket address is refused up front.PLUGIN_UNIX_SOCKET_GROUP, the socket is given to that group, by name or by number, with group read and write; a group that does not exist stops the server.unixand the socket's path.PluginServer::port()becomessocket_path(), andPLUGIN_MIN_PORT/PLUGIN_MAX_PORTno longer apply. A go-plugin host already accepts a Unix socket from a plugin, so hosts need no change. The last commit cuts 0.3.0: this changes the API, and main has gained features since 0.2.0 (Abseil's level from a go-plugin level, and stopping when the host asks).
v0.3.0gets tagged on the merge. Not covered
These are unchanged from before and outside this change:
PLUGIN_MULTIPLEX_GRPC), which this library has never supported.Testing
ctest: 33/33 pass, including new tests for the socket's directory, both forms of the group, a group that does not exist, and removing the socket on shutdown.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
