Enterprise app authentication currently leaves the collector's own enterprise installation out of the graph, making granted permissions and installation configuration difficult to inspect. Collect that installation separately from authentication and enrich its parent app with requested permissions and owner metadata.

  • Reuse GH_AppInstallation for enterprise and organization targets, with enterprise containment and a shared parent-app identity. Enterprise installations do not create organization or repository access edges.
  • Use environment_slug for app collection context while accepting legacy fields. Relax the known DLT app schema constraints for existing collections; previously failed pending loads still require recovery or restart.
  • Preserve installations when parent-app enrichment fails. Update navigation and documentation, and advance the extension schema to v1.4.3 while preserving the merged OIDC support.

Scope: collects the authenticating app's enterprise installation; does not enumerate every app installed directly on an enterprise.

Validation: 507 tests passed; Ruff checks on changed Python files, schema JSON validation, and git diff --check passed. Inspected live collection and converted output: 38 installations (37 organization, 1 enterprise), seven granted enterprise permissions, and 188 selected-repository links with correct organization context.

Ticket: BED-10454

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Enterprise app authentication now collects the collector’s enterprise installation and the parent app’s requested permissions and metadata.
    • App and installation records include collection context and distinguish organization from enterprise installations.
    • Enterprise installation relationships appear in the graph and navigation.
    • App lookup works across organization contexts.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified enterprise collection limits, permissions, access requirements, and compatibility with existing records.

Walkthrough

The change collects the authenticating GitHub App’s enterprise installation and parent app metadata. It updates app and installation models for enterprise context, adds enterprise graph relationships, and adjusts organization collection and schema handling for environment slugs and legacy records.

Changes

Enterprise App Collection

Layer / File(s) Summary
App context and graph contracts
src/openhound_github/models/app_installation.py, src/openhound_github/lookup.py, descriptions/edges/GH_Contains.md, descriptions/nodes/GH_App.md, descriptions/nodes/GH_AppInstallation.md, extension/schema.json
App and installation models support environment slugs, enterprise context, and requested app permissions. The graph and schema describe enterprise containment and navigation. App lookup uses the slug without an organization filter.
Enterprise installation collection and enrichment
src/openhound_github/source.py, src/openhound_github/resources/enterprise.py, README.md, tests/test_enterprise_app_installation.py
The enterprise-app session is passed to enterprise resources. Those resources fetch the collector app’s enterprise installation and enrich it with parent app metadata. Tests and documentation cover retrieval, graph links, error handling, and compatibility.
Organization collection and schema compatibility
src/openhound_github/resources/app_helpers.py, src/openhound_github/resources/organization.py, tests/test_app_installation_repo_access.py
Organization collection uses environment_slug and restricts repository-access processing to organization installations. The schema helper makes specified existing legacy columns nullable when a current source schema is available.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 43194

This change adds collection of the authenticating app's enterprise installation and parent app metadata. No concrete merge-blocking risk was identified from the supplied context.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 4c0c8

The change reuses existing app credentials and explicitly separates enterprise installations from organization and repository access. No security regression was established in the inspected paths. Remaining uncertainty concerns interrupted schema migration and recovery of previously failed collections.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — The added requests reuse app-key and installation-token authority already present before this PR. The existing app key can mint installation tokens; this change adds metadata reads rather than a new credential or privilege grant.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Enterprise installations resolve containment to the enterprise node. Organization repository-access processing explicitly rejects enterprise targets, and app ownership edges require a recognized collected owner rather than relying on installation context or shared slug identity.
  • observed — The new enterprise and app selectors are URL-encoded before entering request paths. Existing configuration checks require HTTPS endpoints and constrain the app-authentication API origin to the configured REST origin.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Parent-app request failures are logged and skipped independently of installation production, preserving installation metadata for configuration analysis. This containment does not establish behavior for downstream normalization failures.
