Hashtags in commits, replies, scheduled commits and Remotes messages now show in Commit Blue at medium weight. Tapping one opens Search in the same tab with the tag filled in and its commits loading. This brings over what the web added in dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh@b7456c2c.

The matching rule is the web's regex. It runs on prose only, after links, mentions and hex colors. So #fff stays a color swatch, and a # inside a URL, a mention or code is left alone. a#b and { aren't tags either. The composer preview keeps hashtags as plain text, like the web's static preview.

Search opened from a hashtag doesn't focus the field, so the keyboard stays out of the way of the results. The # counts towards the three characters the API needs for a commit search, same as the web. A hashtag tapped inside Search's own results just searches for it in place.

The web keeps hashtags plain for guests. The app can't show commits while signed out, so there's no guest case here.

Things to look at:

  • Search still sends #tag to the people search too. It finds nobody, so it's harmless, but it's an extra request.
  • In Remotes messages hashtags use the mention colour, so they stay readable in your own bubble.

Screenshots

Still to come. No simulator was free with a signed-in app when this was built.

  • No visible change

A hashtag in a commit, a reply, a scheduled commit or a Remotes message
now shows in Commit Blue at medium weight. Tapping it opens Search in the
same tab with the hashtag in the field and its commits loading, the way
the web links a hashtag to its search page with q set to it.

It uses the web's rule from dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh@b7456c2c: a # and a
letter, then letters, marks, digits and underscores, not straight after a
word character, &, /, #, > or -. It is found in the prose only, after
links, mentions and colors, so #fff stays a color and a # inside a URL,
a mention or code is left alone. The composer's preview leaves hashtags
as plain text, as the web's static preview does.

Search opened this way doesn't focus its field, as on the web, so the
keyboard stays out of the results. The # counts towards the three
characters devnull needs to search commits, as it does on the web.
