@level420 — thanks for the prompt and the heads-up about bullseye EOL. The fix is up in #43, and I have published test images to my fork's GitHub Container Registry so you can try them before the PR merges.
If you have time, please pull the 3-trixie and 3-noble tags and confirm they work for your use case. Any failure mode you can reproduce would be especially useful before this merges upstream. Thanks again for raising the issue.
@fdcastel thanks for the trixie images. I've done some tests with the firebird 3.0.14 trixie image and everything worked well. No problems so far. Will test noble soon.

PS.: debian bullseye will be (real) EOL on August 31, 2026

It’s the same issue with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat).
Firebird 3 was built against older libraries that are no longer included in these newer distributions.
I’m not exactly sure how to fix it, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your insights on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert on this, but I guess either the Firebird 3.0 build needs to be "modernized" in this respect, or you need to compile it yourself.
asfernandes commentedon May 14, 2026
What is the exact problem(s)? With what libraries?
fdcastel commentedon May 14, 2026
Both Trixie and Noble lack

I think building from sources would be the way to go.

I’d STRONGLY prefer to stick exclusively to official releases for this project.
Also, would that be our response to any user who wants to run Firebird 3 on a modern Linux distribution in a few months: “Build it yourself”?

@fdcastel worked now some while with firebird 3.0.14 noble image without problems. Looks good to me.

Great! I’ll merge this tonight.
Thank you, @level420, for bringing this to my attention and for the valuable feedback.
