[CLI + Go SDK] az vmss nic list is not working #27341

Open

Description

@diyor-uptycs

Describe the bug

Cannot get network interfaces of a virtual machine scale set using both CLI and Azure SDK for Go.

CLI command

az vmss nic list --resource-group {resource_group} --virtual-machine-scale-set-name {vmss_name}
Getting the following response:

cli.azure.cli.core.azclierror: (NotFound) Resource /subscriptions/.../resourceGroups/.../providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/csm11645 not found.
Code: NotFound
Message: Resource /subscriptions/.../resourceGroups/.../providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/csm11645 not found.
az_command_data_logger: (NotFound) Resource /subscriptions/.../resourceGroups/.../providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/csm11645 not found.
Code: NotFound
Message: Resource /subscriptions/.../resourceGroups/.../providers/Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/csm11645 not found.

The same error in SDK response.

Related command

az vmss nic list --resource-group {resource_group} --virtual-machine-scale-set-name {vmss_name}

    diyor-uptycs, the supplied logs show a 404 from the VMSS network-interface endpoint, and the Go SDK hits the same service path. Current az vmss nic list help explicitly limits this command to Uniform orchestration; Flexible scale sets use az network nic instead.

    Could you share whether the affected scale set uses Uniform or Flexible orchestration? From the same subscription and resource group used by the failing command, the single-value output of az vmss show --resource-group RG_NAME --name VMSS_NAME --query orchestrationMode --output tsv is sufficient. This determines whether we should investigate a Uniform-endpoint failure or guide you to the Flexible NIC path. The issue will be picked up automatically when you reply.

    diyor-uptycs, following up on the orchestration-mode question: does the affected scale set use Uniform or Flexible?

    The single-value output of az vmss show --resource-group RG_NAME --name VMSS_NAME --query orchestrationMode --output tsv, in the same subscription and resource group as the failing command, is sufficient; no resource IDs or credentials are needed. This determines whether to investigate the Uniform NIC endpoint or use the Flexible NIC path. Your reply will automatically resume triage.
