This file applies to the repository root. All paths below are relative to that root.
- Read development/README.md before changing the driver, tests, or build workflow.
- For changes under
src/firebird/driver/, read the matching module note. Keep module-specific findings there rather than expanding this file: init, config, core, fbapi, hooks, interfaces, and types. - Keep developer information in
development/.docs/docs/contains the Zensical documentation for driver users. - Check
git statusbefore editing and preserve unrelated work. Verify changes with the focused tests and build commands described in the development README; report any Firebird-dependent checks that could not run. - Check pytest's
Firebird:session header against the intended backend when changing tests or fixtures: it reports the configuration, server/version, host, client library, and selected test database. The displayed database path is the source file; fixtures test a temporary copy. - Guard version-specific features in tests and driver code. Record introduction versions and any
separate minor-release thresholds for supported Firebird branches in
development/when adding or changing a guard; do not assume one lower-bound check covers every branch.
